SUMMARY OF MY THOUGHTS

Well what can I say? At the start of this Web 2 I was feeling rather negative and didn't really think that I would get this far.
I have enjoyed most of the exercises especially liked flickr, postcard browser and library thing.
Not so keen on zoho writer and rss feeds.
I have found that I am not too old to learn new things and that I am not quite so much of a technophobe as I thought I was.
Feeling rather proud of myself for persevering and not throwing in the towel.
As you can see I have gone a bit crazy over the beautiful pictures of the places I would love to visit.

Social Networking and Libraries

I feel that by using sites like MySpace libraries are creating new ways to market themselves to a much wider teenage "audience".
They give the teens chance to connect with favourite authors and musicians and hopefully they will tell their friends about how great libraries are.
They are also a good way to get the message across announcing activities and services at the local library. Therefore hopefully achieving a higher public attendance at book launches and talks by popular authors

Get Social My Space and Facebook

I checked out both Auckland Library and Rotorua Library sites on Bebo and found them to be very colourful and informative.
Then went into My Space and had a look around Trip Advisor. You could look for hotels etc and check out prices and availability. Would be very handy if I was lucky enough to be planning a big overseas trip.
I then tried out a music site of one of my favourite singers and really enjoyed this one. There were videos and blogs and lots of photos. Will probably go in and login for this one.
Had a quick look at Facebook and found quite a few people that I know registered on this.(Including members of my family).
I don't think that I will register myself as I feel that these sort of sites are aimed at the younger generation.
However I did enjoy my visits.

E Books

I decided to look for a couple of my childhood favourites "Little Women" and "Peter Pan".Found them both on Librivox. Also checked out Google Books and was impressed with the range available.E books would be vary useful when travelling ,but I personally much prefer to curl up with a "proper book" and a large box of chocolates

PodCasts

I'm afraid I got totally confused and lost with this exercise. Some sites I couldn't even get into.
However did manage to access podcastpickle and listened to excerpts from a couple of books that took my fancy "Summer in Tuscany" and " Must Love Dogs".
These would be quite handy for library users to have a little preview of a book and is more interesting than just reading the synopsis on the book cover

Infotubey and Youtube

First I watched some of the Library videos and personally thought the guys singing were a bit corny.
I did however enjoy The Denver Public library video, and thought that it was a good marketing tool. I feel that this idea could be used to publicise our own libraries.
I then had a look at Best of the 60s music videos and also Oldies but Goodies early 50s 60s Rock N Roll videos.
I enjoyed these as they brought back a lot of memories of my miss spen youth

Im Cooked and I Food

I really enjoyed this exercise. I checked out 2 of the winning sites in Web 2. and loved them both.
I watched several video cooking demonstrations and there were some really good ones.
You can join up and share recipes with other members and even video yourself (if you are so inclined).Don't think I will be doing that though.
Unfortunately I can see no use whatever for a library setting but I am sure that some of the other categories would be of use i.e. Genealogy.

Zoho Writer

Well what can I say. After waiting nearly 15 minutes to sign up I was confronted by a whole lot of information that meant absolutely nothing to me.
Having never used word processing it was all very confusing and I am sure I personally will never take this one any further.
However saying that, I did manage to create a document. But as for the other features (which I am sure are very helpful to some) I was completely lost

Rollyo

I did this one rather quickly so didn't study it too hard. My searchroll is about baking which is one of my favourite past times. Hopefully I may get some new and delicious recipes from this.
I will keep my fingers crossed.

Library Thing

I enjoyed this site . Had fun finding my books on line1+-
Although I have a couple of coffee table type books on Italy and Spain which did not appear. I have only added 6 books at this stage but will go back in again and add more at a later date.
I would also like to do abit more "exploring"

Here Comes Summer

Took me a while to get this picture to my Blog, but somehow it arrived Yippee!!! I am not sure quite how it got there but it is there and that is the main thing. I am feeling quite proud of myself.
There were quite a few images to choose from but I liked this one the best.

Playing in the Sandbox

Have got sand under my fingernails and have opened a Wiki account (under a different name).
As yet I haven't written any entries but will probably go back and add some details about my favourite things.
You could spend a lot of time playing ,and making sandcastles but it is now my bedtime and I need my beauty sleep

WIKIS

I have discovered that Wiki is taken from the Hawaaian term Wikiwiki which means superfast.
Checked out Book Lovers wiki and was impressed. The index is set out clearly in genres and you can read up to date reviews on your favourites (or add your own review). It also reviewed audio books.
Tried to get into Library Success but had to log in with email & password so only had quick look at list of contents ( which were quite impressive).
Selling your library.
Training and development.
Implementing technology in libraries
Conferences
Readers advisory
Collection selection and management
These are only a few of the headings and I think this would be a very helpful site .

WEB 2.0

Today I checked out OCLC Next Space News letter, and read about "icebergs" and the New World of Librarianship.By using Web 2.0, libraries provide better teaching facilities at University/school Libraries.
Patrons will keep returning to the Library if they can get the information that they need promptly.
It is true that libraries are no longer just a collection of books and we must keep up with the everchanging technology.
I consider that Web 2.0 will go a long way to meeting all the objectives in North Shore libraries vision for the future.

Technorati

Well I have now been on a tour of technorati and quite honestly it didn't make a lot of sense to me.
Maybe I am just too old and set in my ways but I was totally confused and could see no advantage to me personally.
For people who use computers a lot in their daily work it is probably a great thing but not for me

Delicious

I have had my tour around Delicious and although I can see that it would be useful in many ways, I do not feel that it is the sort of thing that I personally will be using.
People who spend a lot of time on their computers researching etc will most definately find it of great help.
However it seems to involve a lot of input and I am not the sort of person to spend lots of time on a computer when there are so many other interests in my life

RSS feeds

Well I think I've got the gist of it,but Ican't see that I will make much use of these either at work or at home.
It would probably be useful to the Library as a whole by way of receiving news about new books and literary events.
Unless I manage to find some extra time in my day to have a practise I feel that I will probably forget what it is I am supposed to be doing.
Do I sound confused? Thats because I am

Technology

When we first bought our computer,I freely admit I knew hardly anything.
Since then I have learned that I can shop on the Internet(Maybe it is a bit too easy!)
You just have to have your credit card ready and off you go.
The way that we can send photos to family and friends is amazing, and who would have thought that you could send messages to someone on the other side of the world in a matter of minutes.

Postcard Browser

Discovered Postcard Browser which is really great. You just need to enter a word and it brings up all these amazing postcard images. Will probably have another look when I have more time

Stop The World

In risk of showing my age, I feel that this modern technology is moving so fast that I can't keep up.
I often yearn for a simpler time when life went at a more leisurely pace, neighbours knew one another, and I used to get "proper letters" from friends that I could sit down, read and enjoy over a cup of coffee.
Sadly those days are gone and I must try to make an effort to "keep up".
Hope I make it
